Natural Dyes & Dyeing Course

Course description

This course will give you an insight into the wide range of plants and other natural substances that can be used to produce dyes. During the day you will be foraging for dye plants in our 18 acre woodland and learning how to use them to colour wool fleece.

Patricia Hutchinson will be your expert tutor for the course and she will explain all the processes from plant to fabric and the various techniques that can be used to extract and fix the colours.

During the day you will be dyeing sheeps fleece using the plants you have collected together and with the heat of the wood fire create an array of naturally coloured wools. You will finish the day by weaving your fleece samples into a frame to create your own labeled reference swatch.

Course places are limited to 8, no experience is necessary. We will supply morning coffee and afternoon tea, but please bring a packed lunch.
